Self-Binding in Customer Designs
Big news at Lantex.
We’re excited to announce that we are now offering self-piping in customers’ own designs or perfectly matched colours.
This is a real game-changer for our customers and takes our products to an even more premium level.
While we can’t go into the full detail of how we achieve this (some things have to remain trade secrets!), what we can share is that if you are digitally printing fabric, your designs can now include perfectly matching binding. The same applies to dyed fabrics, allowing us to create a seamless, coordinated finish across the entire product.
Our products have always been known for their quality and premium feel, but this latest development elevates them even further.
Even better, everything is produced right here in the heart of Lancashire – continuing our tradition of delivering quality products made with care, love, and pride.
What Is Self-Binding?
Self-binding on products such as double oven gloves is a sewing technique used to finish raw edges by creating a neat, folded border. Often achieved using bias tape, this method produces a durable edge that stands up to both heat and frequent washing.
The binding covers all raw edges – including the hand pockets and the central connecting strip – helping to prevent fraying and ensuring long-lasting durability.
Key Aspects of Self-Binding on Double Oven Gloves
Edge Finishing
Bias binding is applied to the straight edges of the hand pockets and around the entire outer edge of the double oven glove.

Technique
One side of the bias tape is opened and aligned with the raw edge on the right side of the fabric, stitched into place, then folded over to the reverse side and top-stitched for a clean, secure finish.
Materials
Typically, around 2.5-inch double-fold bias tape is used to create a neat finish on both sides of the product.
Application
For a standard double oven glove, approximately three metres of binding is required to cover all edges, including the pocket openings.
Hanging Loop
The binding can also be extended – or a separate strip added – to create a practical hanging loop attached to the centre of the oven glove.

Using self-binding is an essential part of creating a professional, robust, and long-lasting kitchen textile product. Combined with our new ability to match the binding perfectly to your fabric design, the result is a product that looks better, lasts longer, and delivers a truly premium finish.
